On the 95th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme Year 10 visited the WW1 battlefields and cemeteries of Belgium and Northern France. Several girls were able to visit the graves of relatives who died in the War. We learned about life in the trenches and witnessed the scale of loss represented by the Thiepval memorial. After visiting the Langemark German Military Cemetery girls gave a reading from ‘Journey’s End’ and laid a wreath at the Tyne Cot Cemetery.
